The Wish
Aileen Guinness, the daughter of Arthur Ernest Guinness loved Luttrellstown Castle. One day in 1918, she visited with a friend as her father was meeting with the owner, Major Hamilton. The friends played down at the folly by the wishing chair and her father overheard her saying “I love this place so much I wish I could live here forever”.
Nearly ten years later, Aileen married Brinsley Plunkett and on coming home from honeymoon, they were visiting Luttrellstown again with her father. Before they left, her father Arthur handed the keys and deeds to the castle for Aileen thus making her childhood wish come true. He never forgot what he overheard that day and knew how special Luttrellstown was for his daughter.
